I have certainly had trouble that required jamming a wedge into the split to expand it, but it sounds like you tried that. I would jam something in it and thenlet is soak in PB for a while. A little heat would be the next step i think. Doesn't need to be too hot, just enough to make the PB wick in, 300f or a little more.
