Mine is mounted using the front 'stock' holes and plenty of high-quality body trim adhesive completely along all of the contact areas front, sides and back without the additional holes and screws. The large holes on each side of the hatch near the rear window are sealed with flat black insert plugs that are barely visible. It has been that way for 10 years without a hint of leakage or shifting. Suggest you try this before drilling more holes, etc. IMHO, as a worker in aerodynamics, the whale tail is mostly cosmetic and under minimal dynamic loading, mostly compression, and not likely going anywhere in normal use, except if you get stuck on a railroad crossing and T-boned by a train...
