Hall Sensor (I think)...Result of Cause and Repair 1 Saabers Like This Post! The 85 SAAB 900 8V NA distributor (0237021014) was removed and a test distributor was inserted to verify the fault of no start/spark. Car run very nicely with test distributor.
The faulty distributor was rebuilt with new Hall Sensor and mounting o-ring. Retested on separate SAAB, and it ran very well. Reinstalled in original car with success.
Some comments:
The hall sensor is mounted on a two layer metal rotating "table" in which the hall sensor is positioned by the arm of the vacuum advance via a stud pin on the sensor table. That pin was a a bit too large and only had a interference fit to the vacuum advance arm hole. Had to widen the arm hole very slightly. I noticed some vendors only sell the upper hall sensor table which must be riveted to the existing table.
The slot rotor hub is stake pinned to the shaft and is fairly thin metal. One has to be very careful in pulling the slot rotor off as to not distort its shape. some repair kits include the slot rotor, some do not.
For this distributor, one only had to first mark the distributor body to valve cover position and note the distributor rotor pointing position before removal. The distributor can only be inserted in two positions, 180 degrees from each other. The marking from valve cover to distributor body is more than enough to get the timing right. I actually used the leading edge of one of the distributor body bolt hold downs to mark it against the valve cover body.
Hope this helps some with the same issue.
