Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time. If you had OLD brake fluid it could have rotted from the inside of the line. I know guys that flush new fluid every year.
Brake fluid is nasty stuff!
If it were me I would pull the carpet and pads and drain the fluid. I would wash the carpet with dawn and replace the contaminated pads. Maybe it did not get in the carpet? Clean the pans with dawn and maybe even follow up with rubbing alcohol or something to get it all. You may even have to repaint floor pan. Use a line wrench to pull the old line, get a new one made and replace it. I would replace both lines to be safe since your in there. Then add new Dot4 fluid and bleed everything until you see good clear new fluid from brakes and clutch. Follow ABS procedure RF,LF,RR,LR, clutch and keep your reservoir full of fluid so you don't push air into the lines as described in 520-1 of service manual. I use the Motive Power Brake Bleeder and their fluid container bottles. Bleeding the clutch is a pain and I even have the special tool so I don't have to pull the clutch cover.
Not a fun job.
