I have a couple cars with "Auxito" brand cheap LED lights. These are drop-in replacements for the H4 bulbs. I am running them in pre-1987 E-Code housings on my c900, and in the DOT-spec lights on my Honda Insight. They work quite well. They also don't generate nearly as much heat as the halogen H4s so the reflectors will last longer before the silvering degrades.

Some states (like I think southern states, maybe?) are strict about not allowing them. Or maybe it's certain sheriffs like to make trouble pulling over people with LEDs because they have nothing better to do. I've heard a few stories, generally anticlimactic, but nothing from up here in the northeast.

I know some people have had bad experiences, both using them and being blinded by others using them, but I'm going to go out there and say that:
A. The recent offerings are much better than those of even a couple years ago in terms of beam pattern, so a lot of past experience may not be relevant.
B. A lot of them you see out there on strangers' cars are installed/aimed wrong. It may not be straightforward, there is a trick to installation, and you have to adjust the aim afterward, but use your brain and do it right and you won't have these problems.
C. E-code housings have a bulb shield built in, creating a sharp cutoff even if the bulb isn't perfect, so they are in a lot of ways more forgiving than US DOT housings.
