Thanks, Ron and John, for the suggestions.

As I said, I've looked into a threaded extension and haven't been able to find a part that matches the threads on the existing tube and connector (yet). I'll keep trying.

I had the same thought with regard to welding; the shops I spoke to about welding a sleeve over the existing tube advised that it would be cheaper to have a new tube fabricated. They suggested that I reach out to the tube fabrication place that referred me to them . . . ! I do like the idea of going to an exhaust shop; I know one that might be up for some jerry-rigging.
