First, I have a full 3" system - from the turbo, all the way back. I
picked-up my JT for $200 and bought all the other parts here in the
'states. Didn't think it made much sense to pay shipping on parts that
are readily available here at the same price or cheaper. The downpipe
is another story - it's a very reasonable price and isn't so expensive
to ship. There is one thing to consider in favor of the full JT system:
A DIY'er could probably install it him/herself. With my system, I had to
have a local exhaust specialist fabricate/bend 3" pipe for the piece that
runs between the rear muffler and the cat'.
Second, performance: I'm just stating what I've read by McInness in his
book on turbochargers - once past the cat', a decrease in pipe diameter
will not result in a noticeable decrease in performance, and, may in
some cases result in an increase. In fact, he implies it can be used
as a way of controlling too much boost with some configurations. Besides,
what you should really be concerned with is exhaust gas temperatures, which
the JT will do by itself - once you're past the cat' EGT's aren't really
a concern.
