Personally -
I would not get a CSE - just because the Aero niceties are not
all in that model, as I understand it, also, much less power !
Having read the ads - there are a few that would do nicely, IMHO.
Of course, your price range and possibly location will narrow the
desirable choices - but that one for 17K looks enticing, if one
had the $$ and was near to it !!
Personally - I would either get one with absurdly low mileage,
and spend the extra money - or get one at the post 130K stage,
and damn the torpedoes - no matter which one, it will be as
hungry as will be appropriate for it's past use - and as long
as it has not been beaten by some hotshot kid as a stoplight
and/or drag racer with no maintenance at the same time, it
will at some point likely only need several 800-1000 dollar
repairs - as opposed to alot more.
I was lucky - mine had the turbo before I got it - but then
it needed the throttle body, fuel pump, head gasket, A/C
compressor, exhaust and a few more odds n' ends besides.
OK, so here's the math, as I see it:
7000 + 3000 = 10,000 (Assuming a couple of years for this...)
OR:
17,000 + 0, then wait a few years, and spend the same amounts !
If you want a great car, this is what it costs - and IMHO it
is worth every penny.
As Shawn said - you cannot beat the price for the comfort and
performance - I had a bimmer too - and would never do THAT
again !!!
The '92 needs big mods to enable switched TCS - the '93 can
take just the switch for around $100 - and I have seen posts
that referred to the '95 as the year with TCS optional - but
I am no expert on options vs. years - so hopefully someone
more educated will be willing to share and help you on this.
'Cheap' and 'performance' really are not compatible concepts,
but if you want the performance - why be cheap about it ?
If cheap is most important - find an '87 turbo that isn't
rotted - much less electronics - but plenty of kick for the
average Joe; just don't get a car with 225+ HP first, or
one with the Aero seats and stuff because then you will be
SPOILED FOR LIFE ! (There is NO way back - I learned this..)
Good Luck !
