The quick reference parts manual lists accumulator 89 67 218 to be good for cars up to VINs K1009731, K2004996, and K8000276. I think you're stuck with 88-89.
I seem to recall Anders mentioning in a post that he had quit putting in used accumulators because they tended to be close to being wornout, only good for 8 or less pedal jabs . Didn't you say you had one from your original pump? Does that do the same thing? Seems unlikely both accumulators would be totally dead. Does the pressure switch shut your pump off? I'm speculating here, but it would seem that an accumulator would go bad because the diaphragm, or whatever provides the resilience of the nitrogen bubble, failed and the whole thing would fill up with fluid. It should still reach operating pressure and briefly shut off the pump. Anders and Ari seem to be the experts. I was fortunate enough to be able to swap in a replacement pump in my 88 without problems. I won't have the car on the road til spring, though, so I'm reluctant to assume I'm home free.
