Up until your post now I didn't know it existed another accumulator then the 4002267.
I know that the pump unit changed shape (oriention) with the VIN but not that the accumulator was different.
Thinking about it, I can't say for sure if I have changed an accumulator on those early 9000 or not, but if I did, 4002267 is most likely what I used.
I did however have a customer come in some months ago asking me if I could figure out why his accumulator that he bought from an online supplier didn't fit his car.
The accumulator had a too long of a neck so that it bottomed out inside the pump unit before the o-ring could seal completly.
I couldn't help him more than saying that they probably sold him a unit meant for another brand car (Jaguar use the same system) and told him to return it for another one or get his money back. I never heard from him again so I don't know the rest of the story.
Maybe that's the difference between the two VIN groups that you can swap a new one in for an old but not vice versa (or the other way around)?????
Finding a used one is a big hit and miss, so if you have to pay substantial amount of money for the used one, don't bother.
In your case I would absolutly try the one from the 91 9000 you have. At least take both of them out and see if you can notice any differences in the mounting neck and threads.
