ABS accumulator part number question ... (long)

I have an 88 9000 turbo that I've been troubleshooting a hard brake pedal. I've replaced the ABS pump, which now runs, but the brake fluid level doesn't budge at all.
Previous posts indicate that this is the accumulator (it's no longer maintaining pressure. A new accumulator is $350--out of the question.
I'm trying to figure out if I need to get one that is from an 88, or if I can use one from any 9000. My EPC lists two part numbers for the accumlator: 89 67 218 is for the MY 85-89 hydraulic unit. 40 02 267 is listed as the number for the accumulator in MY 85-89 ABS, Mark II in MY 90-93, Mark II in MY 94-95, and under "Complete Set brakes" in MY 94-98. It doesn't make sense to me that they would change the part (they all LOOK identical) or its operating pressure, but what makes sense to me does not necessarily make sense to SAAB :-)
I've had several parts suppliers tell me I MUST use one from the 88, and some even ask for a VIN before letting me know if they have one. I'd like to call some of the folks parting out 9000's in the TSN classifieds, but need to know what years I should restrict myself to. I'd also like to swap in the accumulator from my wife's 91 to be sure it is the accumulator that is failed, but again, want to be sure it will be okay.
Can anyone help me understand what my EPC is telling me?
Thanks a ton.
