Urby,
No, she doesn't have a specific large item transport need, but she is will be going to college in a year and half. While she may not be able to have a car the first year, she will probably need it thereafter, and since she will likely be several hours away, carrying capacity is useful.
She likes Saabs in general, but may not prefer one model over another for other than aesthetics. She will have some input into the choice, but I will make the decision. She'll have a car---she won't really mind all that much. She has driven my 9K a fair amount, and it fits her fine. She likes it much better than the Mazda 6 or 626 at her driving school. As we get closer she'll get to drive some other Saabs.
Since she has a job, she will pay for all her gas and half insurance. Having her pay for all of it is over the top, much as I would like it to be that way. I will pay for maintenance and do at least some of it, as long as she understands her car is not my #1 maintenance priority.
She doesn't know this is in the works. She has lobbied lightly for a car, but knows they are expensive and that we operate on a budget. We just decided this was probably a good approach.
And congrats on your soon to be new babe. If this is your first you are about to experience an amazing event that changes your life forever. My two (11 and 16, both girls) drive me nuts at times but it is really great having kidlets.
Good luck on Sunday.
Noel
