I would not characterize the suspension of my '94 CS Turbo as a "boulevard ride", although it is more compliant than the Aero version of the same car. Then again, I have poly bushings and fairly firm sidewall tires. Perhaps your tires are soft, allowing the sidewall to flex easily?
The orange band around your shocks and struts are the factory coding for their firmness, and all four should be the same color unless something has been replaced. For the 1994 model, orange was the base shock, purple was for more equipment/weight (CSE?) and brown was for Aeros. The codes changed over the years, presumably as standard equipment levels changed, more weight was added, and fine tuning was done. The original orange and purple shock part numbers have been discontinued and both have been superceded with one replacement, part XXXXX-899.
