...it would always be stick. One thing to consider, though, is where you are driving. The world is pretty crowded now, and the older I get, the more I appreciate an automatic in stop and go traffic, especially in and around NYC.
You can always 'force shift' an auto when you feel the need and if you are cruising on the highway, you're in the same gear most of the time anyway.
You can upgrade either platform to rediculous (mostly unusable) levels of performance: a 'treated' auto can outperform a stock manual if you fix it to do so. For the most part, you will not be able to push either platform to its limits unless you drive in the middle of the night or live far away from everybody else. Manual Aeros do maintain a higher resale value, however.
