I have a '95 Auto Aero and a '97 Anniversary (CSE with Aero body and
suspension) 5-speed.
The auto Aero has 140K and up until a couple of months ago had an Abbott
ECU. It now has a stage 2 SQR ECU. By the way, the auto box is
original and has been used with mods for over 100K. Like Bill Davies
said, the combo of the auto and a turbo gives seamless power.
It's like a marrige made in heaven. Point and shoot.
My "Anni" has an SQR stage 3, plus a huge IC. It makes 310 lb-ft
of torque and 240 Hp at the wheels.
Both cars are very fast, the auto is is easier to launch and takes less
driver skill to accelerate quickly. The 5-speed has more power, but
is more difficult to keep the tires in traction.
I tend to drive the 5-speed more than the auto. I tend to drive the auto
more gently than the manual, to protect the transmission. I love the
massive torque the 5-speed has.
Either is a great choice, it really depends on which you prefer.
Better yet, get one of each!
