Id try to find out what he says will not last. The items you mentioned are wear items, nothing horriable at all. (Exhaust indirect wear, but every car will need one, esp cars in the salt/snow)
If maintiance is done as it should be, and repairs are kept up on it (so you are not getting hit with a $3,000 repair bill all at once) you can keep plugging along with it. If you get rid of it, for another, who knows what problems you may have with it.
I bought my 9000 with 288k on it, it has 316k on it just over a year later. Since, I have a repair list a mile long (all DIY) Timing and Balance Shaft Chains, Guides etc., headgasket, springs, shocks/struts, all suspension rubber, all brakes, turbo, and am now doing everything clutch and shifter related along with some other things...However I would not hessitate one moment to drive it to CA from here in FL...
