'87 900S (unmodified), and a series of 9000's, although not Aero. I currently drive a '91 9kt with Superflex poly control arm bushings, SAS sway bars front and rear, rear Koni shocks.
The 900 seemed to handle better, or it felt like you could throw it around the road. However, it had a lot of understeer. I think I just learned to ignore the understeer. One event that kind of changed my mind about the car was when my wife and I were driving our two cars together - me in my 900S, her in her '88 9kt. The cars had identical tires. Doing a downhill turn on wet pavement, my car slid with bad understeer. She was right behind me, doing the same speed, and I watched as her car didn't slide at all.
The 9000 seems better balanced, and since it's smoother, it seems at first like it doesn't handle as well.
You could certainly improve your Aero. As mentioned, SAS sway bars front and rear will go a long ways, as will tire selection. The poly control arm bushings are great. I don't think you'd need stiffer springs, but you might consider Koni shocks. Finally, with Trionic 5, the engine is very tunable.
