I too am thinking of Bilstein HD dampers and either Abbott springs at 30mm or Kilen / Lesjoffors at 25mm (actual drop 20mm)as i think that 40mm is too much of a compromise + also an Abbott rear piggy ARB. I have poly bushes on front control arms, drop links , front arb and rear arb, and engine torque arms. But not gearbox mount as i think it would bring too much vibration into the cabin.
I have a 9000CSE LPT MY 1997. I have performed some minor upgrades as specced in this forum. I have changed all bushes to poly. WOW what a huge difference feels like a car and not a boat + have aero back box.
The difference with bushes is fantastic except that front is a little harsh, but thats the price for better control and steering feel.
I have been reliably informed that SAS bars will produce oversteer and would be great for track use.
I want to change the suspension as there's just simply too much travel at 7 inches .
Choices as follows:
Bilstein B6 sport dampers with either
kilen 25mm springs (actual drop 20mm) or 30mm Abbott springs or H&R 40mm springs or PI springs at 40mm.
Really want progressive springs.Would really have loved eibach at 30mm and the billies. But alas no longer made.
Also after the above is sorted will fit MAPTUN stage 1 and air filter and forge recirculating valve.
I have read a review of Bilstein sprintline with Ventura springs - rock hard but good for track use.But no reviews with Apex springs.
From what i've read elsewhere bilstein dampers are in fact better quality and a more advanced design than the Koni adjustables. I would be willing to take a chance and go with the Abbott springs and Bilstein Dampers.
I know the default choice would be Abbott / KONI but only because there are no other real proven choices. I don't necessarily believe its the 'BEST.'
I also believe that the good components mate well together. So in the Bilstein Sprintline kit - the springs sell the system short -i.e. they are great dampers ( - with the right springs) - but just not used by Abbott for whatever reason. Abbott set a trend early on - whether this has to do with margins - dont know for sure.
Have been after a clean 9000 with low miles for an age and during this time have always seen the default setup used - KONI and Abbott springs. I hope you guys see the point. Times change and with time there should some advance / progression.
Again anyone tried or thought about trying Bilstein with Abbott springs or any other springs??
sorry for the length - just thought i'd bring it back to Bilstein HDs.
