While not on a Saab (a close Italian cousin - an Alfa) - I have had a stuck valve. This can be caused by carbon buildup on the valve stem, broken spring, a few things. In that case, you hear a very distinct (and loud!) "ting" as the pressure wave hits either the intake plenum or the exhaust manifold.
I'd do a compression test - that should point you to the cylinder with the problem if it is a stuck valve. Since the plugs are out, the bad cylinder should have an 'interesting' spark plug.
As to how to unstick a stuck lifter, if it is a stuck lifter, I'm not sure. I've heard of running a very thin oil (like Marvel Mystery Oil) in the engine at idle, then do an oil change - don't run the engine under load with thin oil.
