Peter, the Impreza seats and ride were much better than the '05 Outback I drove a few years back. But I wasn't in the car for a long enough drive to tell for sure. Seats are sill a concern.
Mark, you nailed my main concern about the Zuki. Not convinced how it will hold up in a crash. That's one of the reasons it's third and is less than a contender.
It was interesting to drive these cars today. It was raining all day. I'd driven my other kid's OG9-3 earlier this morning, and every time I got back in my 9K I thought about how different the Saabs are from the econoboxes, even with over 150K on each car. There really is nothing like a turbocharger in a solid car. The feeling of stability and security in the Saabs in the steady rain really set them apart.
It is making me think that I might be better off buying a decent used OG 9-3, bringing it up to snuff with belts, hoses, fluids, filters, etc., and do some PM like replacing the fuel pump and DI. Then it's a reasonably known quantity with lower potential for surprises. I worry about potential sludge issues, but that can be dealt with.
I'd like another 9K, but good ones are just too thin on the ground
