My car spent two winters in Montana, and where I live in CA, we had snow on the ground last week. My car spends many days a year in sub-freezing temps even here in my little corner of CA. Of course, nothing like my winters in MT, but it sees a fair bit of temperature variation. (The coldest my car's thermometer ever read was -17 in MT, and probably 10-15 here in CA.)
I'm always mixed when I read about the TCS troubles that other people have had. I always keep my car well taken care of and clean. Knock-on-wood, but it's been a nearly trouble-free car. Save a fuel pump and serpentine belt failure, it's never left me stranded. The fuel pump just happens, the serpentine belt should have been taken care of prior to its failure, and I keep a spare DI in the hatch, so I've used that once too.
I'd buy another, so long as it has proven to be one of the good ones.
Cheers, and sorry to hear about your TCS troubles.
