fuel pump vales and Pressure regulator issues?

Simple mindedly replaced the err.. wring pump check valves on my 97, repeating the previous install (dealer apparently).
Price of being less than alert, yet another lesson.
Curiously the perf with this new and improved fuel pressure was significant, much better 'throttle tip in' perf and strong acceleration. Car seemeed to be in the 'right gear' almost always.
Nice effect in an autobox.
After a couple of hours of this though, a CEL appeared.
Subsequently reinstalled the pump check valves.. correctly.. as per the manual, this time, fuel pressure is back to normal ranges.
Goodbye CEL, goodbye low end power upgrade as well.
So,wanting that small but much lower in the rev range (as in V nice)improvement back, are there any slightly higher pressure Fuel regulators available? Used to be simple to find a 3.0 bar regulator for a 87/88 car. Is there a similar upgrade version for the '97 s
I see that on Eeuroparts there is a regulator distinction between '97 and mid '97 and later cars.
So does anyone know if this is a higher pressure unit/ or just
a different mounting ?
