I was thinking about re-torque the Head Bolts because I was vaguely aware that GM switched to inferior bolts at some time and the bolts do loosen.
I dropped that idea because Swedecar posted that the good old bolts were used through 1997.
Now, your case convinced me to re-torque the bolts after all.
Wonder how loose were your bolts and how did you do it. Did you loosen them further and then tighten them? Are the bolts of the old style without washers?
Checking the felt lining for wetness is a touch of genius.
