Done this one twice, now.
On my since departed '95 CS the flex pipe was history. But the studs broke off and were wedded to the holes on the flange on the pipe to the middle muffler. I didn't have a torch to burn out the bolts.
At a real parts store (as opposed to an AutoZone or Advanced) you can get a split flange clamp for a 2.5" pipe. It clamps around the existing pipe and the elongated holes in it line up perfectly with the ones on the Starla Walker flanges. I clamped it around the old pipe, flush up against the defective flange but offset it so the holes would line up. Bolted the flex pipe to it and it was done.
Second time was two weeks ago, doing an entire exhaust. The flange on the back end of the cat was broken. One of the "wings" was intact but the other broken off and had some of the ball part of the ball and socket with it. Split flange clamp to the rescue! This one took the new stud from the flex pipe and holds the broken "wing" in place. I used some pipe cement used for exhaust joints and 800 miles later it's holding well.
