Great writeup. I'm in Vermont which is about as bad as it gets for salt damage. It's been the end of most of the vehicles I've owned in my 50 years of driving. I remember as a kid riding in cars where the floorboards were gone and you could look down and see the road go by. All the gases from the leaky exhaust and the blowby (out of the pre PCV draft tube) from the bad rings and valves came right up through the holes and filled the cab. It's a good thing that inspections got more stringent, but it's hard to keep older vehicles on the road.
I've tried a lot of stuff and your approach sounds good. Best of luck.
