I think I may have mentioned in that last thread something about silicone? ha!

http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/bb/9000/index.html?bID=305051

I chuckle, because, I traced my failed/seized emergency brake/parking brake cables to rust by way of water, on the INSIDE of the car.

Guess where it came from?

If you guessed holes created from rust around the rear shock tower area, you're correct.

1. The water splashes in there, at the rusted shock towers.
2. It creeps and wicks it's way onto the carpets both on the backs of the rear seat and inner car surfaces with carpet.
3. Then the water happily does the old trick water loves to do which is, fill in spaces.
4. The water migrates to the lowest point (thanks gravity!)
5. For me, my lowest point was the place where the cables exit the car at the grommet where the white cheap-o plastic clip that separates the cables is.

My solution was:
-I popped the right rear wheel off where my holes were
-made sure it was clean and dry
-bought a can of undercoating and sprayed a crap-ton on and let it dry, and then sprayed some more. it takes a LONG time to dry so I did multiple applications over time.
-Simultaneously wearing rubber gloves using a tube of clear silicone I did my best to caulk the voids/holes at the shocke tower area from the inside of the car.
-If you're familiar with the bracket area on the inside, and if it's been previously 'repaired', you'll find it near impossible to get the caulking gun in the spaces you need to.
-So I went rogue and squirted obscene amounts of silicone on my gloved hand by cutting off most the tip on the caulk gun and just gooped as much in to the voids in around and under the inner bracket as I could.
-I then used my fingers and kind of went in blind feeling for rough edges and holes and smacked some more silicone in.

this fixed my problem.
I'm still learning metallurgy so until then silicone and undercoating for the win. whatever you do, plug the darn holes unless you love replacing ebrake cables (which then for me meant rear caliper work)
thats my SAAB story, boohoohoo
