I read MaryinME's thread on reaching the end of her relationship with her 9000. I too am at s crossroads. My beloved 9K was totaled by the insurance company last week. I got the paperwork in the mail today. What happened? I was traveling just a bit too fast on the Interstate. Came over a rise in the highway to find all traffic stopped dead ahead of me. Accident? Breakdown? I dunno. I had a split second to decide what to do. Stand on the brake and possibly plow into the back of a wrecker? I opted to try and go around him on the left. I thought there might be just enough room between the wrecker and the guardrail. I took the chance and I made it. I just kept going. Didn't stop or even slow down. But I heard a sort of metallic whoosh along the driver's side of the car. I had brushed the guardrail. When I got home and looked I saw no damage but it was dark. In the cold light of morning, however, I saw I had indeed brushed the guardrail. There was a nice black stripe down the driver's side. My body shop gave me (and my insurance company) an estimate of $2600 to repair my love. State Farm claims my car is worth only $2100. So that's it as far as they are concerned. What to do? I dunno that either. The car is a 1995 CS with 216,000 mies. It's in perfect shape. No issues. Repainted regularly. Interior and outside cared for meticulously for the 13 years I have owned her. She has been to California twice and Alaska once. She has always done all that I ask with aplomb and dignity (including getting me out of my latest misstep on the Interstate). All she ever wants to do is go fast in comfort and safety. I am heartbroken at the thought of losing her.
