First of all, glad that you are OK and were able to survive the incident uninjured. You probably made the right choice for self-preservation by going around the other vehicles.
Now for the what to do: I assume that the quote you got was for a "nice" and "guaranteed" repair using new parts - very expensive and probably about right (someone keyed the side of my Audi and the quote was similar). However, if you want to resurrect your car you do have some options. All parts on the side of the car are bolted on except the rear fender; if the rear fender is just scratched, you can have it repaired and find used doors and a front fender, and have them bolted on - if you find parts in the same color as your car, you don't even have to repaint them. Depending on the state you live in, you are not obligated to let the insurance company take your car away from you; you can accept a damage payment and "buy the car back" from them for what is essentially scrap value, i.e. a few hundred dollars, which works out to a slightly reduced payment. Or have a complete repaint cheap repaint at a place like Earl Scheib. Lots of options if the car is otherwise fine.
