I knew I could count on the Saab brain trust.

It was hot on Tuesday, but not ridiculously so - upper 80s. It was BP gas from a gas station in Traverse City.

I will change the fuel filter this weekend, although it was done when the pump was replaced about three years ago, so it's not too old. I can understand a clogged fuel filter causing problems at higher RPMs when more fuel flow is required, but I would have thought that the car would restart quite easily after stalling out, which was not the case the last time it died?

The whole pump assembly was replaced by K&N when I broke down on the same stretch of road 3 years ago. I think it was a Scantech. Wonder if it's on its way out already? Maybe it's worth replacing the pump insert with a Walbro (I think I have one lying around)?

I'll check all the vacuum lines also as Ken and jjacob suggested. I also have a spare CPS in the trunk so it's probably worth changing that out.

Of course if I just start throwing parts at it, even ones I already have, it won't necessarily tell me what the problem was, which I would like to know. Shame I sold my other 9000 a couple of weeks ago - it was always a useful diagnostic technique to swap parts between the cars. Apparently I sold the wrong 9k!

The Saab tech didn't mention what specific misfire code it was.
I still wonder about the DI cassette, even though it is quite different from my previous multiple DI failures (usual mode was car was running fine until one time I would go to start it and nothing would happen).

Oh well, I know what I'm working on this weekend. I'll follow up if I ever get a definitive answer on the issue.

Thanks

Rod
