I'll have to double-check that cooling fan. (Maybe I was actually hearing the AC pusher fan? Can't remember now.) From what I can see on the laptop OBD-II software the temperature does rise pretty quickly, but tops out at lower than the rated thermostat temperature. I'm pretty sure it is rising fast enough for the specs you quoted to be met but will recheck it. I'll also check the temperature sensor to see if its calibration is off.
As mentioned I also have the correct Bosch front O2 sensor on the way. I hate to just throw parts at a problem, but this is my first OBD-II vehicle and I'm really out of my element with it.
I actually have not had a Haynes manual up to this point but finally broke down and ordered one so as to have some kind of reference.
