Remember to check voltage around month 33~35 Posted by sam96CS [Email] (#852) [Profile/Gallery] (more from sam96CS) on Fri, 7 Mar 2014 16:23:17 In Reply to: $149 at my local Autozone..., Montana Tom [Profile/Gallery] , Fri, 7 Mar 2014 12:00:03 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
A healthy fully charged battery will put out 12.6 volts (measured at the battery terminals engine off with nothing drawing significant current). 12.6 volts is 2.1 volts per cell times 6 cells.
A battery that is no longer able to hold a full charge will put out 12.45v if it is 75% charged, 12.24v if it is 50% charged, 12.06v if it is 25% charged.
When I returned my 35 month old battery the best it could do was 12.45v. The AutoZone guy didn't hesitate to give me a "free" exact replacement. The replacement is under the warranty of the original. My "free" battery will die in 2017, and I'll pay full fare to restart the battery warranty game with AutoZone or whoever is offering a 3 year nonprorated warranty.
My old battery was still starting the car. It might even have survived the winter. My point is if I had waited for it to get closer to death the replacement would not have been "free".
