Oops. Had that happen to me once while driving on the expressway - scared the heck out of me - thought the engine had something seriously wrong with it. But it was still running, and responding to throttle input (at a VERY decreased rate), so I finished my drive to work, let it cool down, and checked it out on my lunch hour. Was able to temporarily fix it with a safety pin.
