After testing this issue 3 times once it showed itself. Spert 2 weeks totally trying to understand all issues with the Zf 4HP 18 Couldn't find anything that replicated my issue as the box worked well before the issue showed up going into park when I had just driven 14 miles.

Fluid is good in the box, no metal on dipstick. Gears all work. Proper fluid levels. Why does it have metal on metal going into park and neutral the next day. No web or hard copy web based docs covered my events.

Stopped driving the car immediately two weeks ago and did one test the next day to confirm what I saw the night before when I shut the car down immediately.

So I'm down to maybe Torque Converter but still had ?s as if it's broken it should be noisy in gears.

I decide I don't want to walk the ⅓ mile to the quick mart in Antrim NH ad decide to fire up the beast. This is what I discovered in that short trip.

The ignition switch probably started as a lazy switch which still engaged the starter in park and neutral hence the grinding metal going into park when I got home from that 1/2 mile trip .It also coincides loosing some of the electricals since the switch position was not into the on position. What gave it away when I restarted the car for the return trip from the quick mart all bulbs were lit in the pictigram. Went to the ingition switch.
and noticed it wasn't in the on position.. move it to the On position all lights go out in the pictogram.
Also by doing that all gears , park and neutral don't have any metal grinding. It's the switch!! That failing spring in the ignition switch seens to be my problem it lags and can knock out other electicals and allow the starter engagement in park and neutral. Sounds like your transmission is coming apart in neutral and park when the starter is engaged to a moving engine.
It also finally went on this trip. Wasn't obvious until it died. Know more about the ZF 4HP 18 than I really cared to know. It was educational. Should be prepared I guess.
