Currently convinced of.. there's no 'fixin what ain't broke' re my chains OCD.
When searching for bits on that adventure.. I discovered that Parts availability, plentiful last time I looked (couple of Years? ago), is currently seriously reduced.
Happily my 97 has proved Reliable, for ~17 years now. I'm well pleased TBH.
So constantly buying parts is a thing of the past.
Current fixation is with; IF I should Retorque my cyl head bolts.. this after reading a posted service bulletin on the subject. No leaks yet tho.
Thinking that it's easy enough todo and likely to distract my current fix it obsessions.
However IF my '97 features Use once 'clock them type' Cyl bolts...
Does it have stretchy bolts ??? (I can't find a real answer).
That would make the service bulletin info nonsensical.. or at least out of context.
IF my model year does require Fresh bolts then I was thinking of laying in a set of bolts and
Possibly a HG gasket set, against future, Real Or imagined needs, could be prudent.
Rare to have failures when one has repair bits on hand. A variant on Murphy's law ? Past HG sets were surprisingly inexpensive.. I have used a few, sans issues..
In which case.. who.. still stocks the Elring sets ?
Or for that matter decent Head bolts?
Eeuro seems quite diminished and as the us/cdn border is currently shut, it isn't a viable source.. currently at least. Saabsite has disappeared. Esaab seems as more NLA listings than anything else. Even Rock auto is showing significant 'out of stock items.
End of an era I suppose.
