I recently re-torqued the head bolts on my 97 CSE. I, too, wondered if it was worth it, or if I’d break a bolt.
I bought two spare bolts from eEuro, and a valve cover gasket, plus the small end-of-camshaft round seal at the front right, which was seeping oil. The main goals were: to check the overall tightness and to try to reduce the small, intermittent coolant leak from the front right corner.
The bolts were fairly loose. I did a sequence of 44#, 66#, and 88# with a calibrated torque wrench. Several of the bolts turned quite a bit at 44#, the rest turned a little at 66#, and I tried to get close to 88# but lost my nerve, settling for just over a quarter turn. Sealed everything up (the cam/distributor seal was totally hardened and rubber crumbled as I pushed it out). The coolant leak is totally stopped, which was one of my main goals. This car has 144k on it and it’s the original head gasket. I’m happy to put that job off indefinitely.
Regarding the parts crisis: yes, I’ve noticed the same things all of you mentioned. I’ve been buying brake calipers from the UK
and stainless exhaust from the UK as well.

In the past couple of years, I’ve bought complete stainless exhaust systems, cat back, for both the 9000 and the 9-5.
I hope that some supply chain problems will get a little better after COVID is done, but recognize the validity of the comments about the 23+ year old 9000’s.
