I have seen several examples of B234 engines with a bad lifter. The suggestions for trying a flush are a good first step, that and thicker oil may sort it.
Mechanics stethascopes are cheap, should allow you to pin down pretty close to where the noise is coming from. With cam cover off try the test suggested pushing dowm with a non scratching stick to see if one or more lifters in the loud area are much softer. If yes, there is a simple tool that allows you to remove the cam and then access just that one valve spring and remove a single lifter, which might recover after a good clean out on the workbench, or better would be to simply replace it with new or known good used.
Good luck sorting it, suspect a former owner was less than regular in changing oil, cam cove roff will reveal much, if regular changes synthetic it will look very clean and new, opposite will look like inside of a BBQ smoker, then rebuild comments might be what you are in for.
