Yes, that's a Sanden compressor and the white thing is just a power connector for the compressor clutch. (My two 9000s and my C900 all have Sanden compressors.)
I would check the pressure in your AC system using a manifold gauge set. There are some inexpensive ones out there good enough for home use. If there is not enough pressure in the system you don't want the compressor engaging since it won't get enough lubrication and will self-destruct internally, making a real mess of things.
There are plenty of videos on youtube showing the use of the gauges, it's really not difficult. Always best to wear eye protection when working on AC, just in case.
