Finally got this thing back together. The problem with having too many Saabs is sometimes you lose motivation to get a job complete and it sits there for a while until you're tired of walking past a half-disassembled car. I finally decided I would finish this job this weekend so I could put my nice 9000 Aero back in the garage where it belongs. What a PITA to get the heater core and fan back in. I did remove the bulkhead cable connector next to the ECU to give me a little more room to get the fan assembly back in. It would be easier on a car where the AC didn't work but this one still blows cold so I didn't want to pull the evaporator housing out. There has to be an easier way to fish that fan assembly in and out. I also drilled a small hole in the back of the fan motor housing where the rear bearing is at so I can give it a small shot of lube from time to time. I think it's a shielded bearing but a little lube might sneak in there. Nothing more annoying than a squeaky HVAC fan when it slows down to idle speed.
To my surprise, the AC still blows cold even after wrestling that evaporator housing around. Blows hot air and cold air on command. Now I have to figure out which CSE to sell. This one has more body rot but it has a newish head gasket and new heater core, both jobs I despise. The green one's body is a little better but the HG was done many years ago, as well as the heater core. Both drive OK and will be relegated to winter beater/parts car/back-up to the back-up status.
