EDU suddenly crapped out

Just as things were going well, the EDU in my '97 CSE suddenly flickered and went dark while I was driving, taking instruments and HVAC with it. (As it happens I was set to go on a little trip a couple of hours away tomorrow but will use a different vehicle.)

Last time this happened years ago the problem was bad solder joints. I already checked the EDU fuse and that's OK, though I haven't actually tested for voltage in that circuit yet. Once that's verified it's time to take the dash top off and pull the instrument cluster out - again.
