Switch in radiator inlet hose Posted by Gary Stottler [Email] (#1463) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Gary Stottler) on Mon, 7 Feb 2011 05:44:20 In Reply to: Re: a/c cutoff switch n/m, Pat, Sun, 6 Feb 2011 13:01:04 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Does the car in question have AC? The previous posts imply that the switch would cut off the AC if the coolant temperature gets too hot (good for the engine, bad for the passengers!). I have a 99 Turbo with no AC and a 99 EMS with original AC, and neither has this switch (although I have seen it in other cars - seems like it was in early 900s?).
The original 99 Turbo did have the two fans (one runs only when the ignition is on, the other can run when ignition is off). Both are controlled by the "fan switch" screwed into the left end tank of the radiator. The "problem" with this set-up is that it controls the fans based on the radiator outlet temperature rather than the engine outlet temperature, so the fans tend to "lag" the engine temperature. Since 99 Turbos have always been hard to cool, people have tried many things over the years to improve the cooling and someone may have taken a 900 outlet pipe and tried to convert the fan control to engine outlet temperature.
So, a couple of questions:
1) Do you have AC on the car and do you want to keep it?
2) Are you having problems controlling the engine temperature (temp gauge reads too high)?
Unfortunately, I have a fair amount of experience with both these items, so I can try to help you work through it if you need.
Good Luck!
