Thank you Gary for your help. The car had AC but the compressor is no longer there, just the bracket. For now, I am not interested in having the compressor put back for AC. I am the third owner of this car so what you wrote "...have always been hard to cool, people have tried many things over the years to improve the cooling" probably is certainly true when you saw that upper radiator hose with the switch (thermo?) coming out of it. To answer your second question, yes the temp gauge is reading too hot. I just changed the thermostat and the temp gauge is still reading too high still. Next step, according to what I have read, is to change the thermo switch on the side of the radiator and the temperature sender switch. I would welcome any other suggestions too. Thanks again for the help.
