Seems odd it was running OK the other day on your way home and now there's a pump problem. I've taken pumps apart before and found cracks on the ring in the lower left of the image, so as long as you could bench test the motor to see if it runs, a pump not moving fuel might be related to cracking of that ring. I'm sure you could flow test the pump out of the car as well by hooking a hose to the suction side(bottom marked S) and one to the pressure side(middle marked U) and maybe a third hose to the return side(marked R) and try to move fluid from a container, but that's not something I have ever done. If you put the suction and return in the fluid and left the pressure side out, then you could see if it moves fluid. Water might be safer than a flammable liquid for the test. Since they are vane style pumps, tolerances have to be pretty tight so they can create the suction and flow. Also double check that you have the three hoses hooked to the proper ports on the pump. The service manual seems to be pretty straight forward and only warns of the hooking up the hoses properly, and nothing about having to prime the pump. There's also a flow arrow on the filter, but I don't think that's as critical as the hose connections on the pump.
