Where are you checking for fuel flow? In the trunk or at the fuel rail in the engine bay?
Did you pinch off the three lines before removing them from the pump like the manual tells you to do? Is it possible the line running from the pump to the engine bay emptied while you were swapping pumps? If that line is full of air do you think you would have to bleed the system up at the fuel rail? The service manual makes no mention of having to do that, but I'm sure it's something you could try.
There is no sock in the fuel tank that I am aware of.
