The main reason I didn’t go the mechanical pump route was simply money and time. After getting the 99 last month I quickly dumped my other car and made this my only/primary/daily driver. Add into this that I am not a rich man and I only have a gravel driveway that has been getting rain on and off for weeks – not a nice warm garage.

The complete swap out for a new Motor/transmission didn’t make sense with this car in particular being that it only has about 80,000 miles and it’s running great and strong - the clutch was done only last year.

Regarding the stronghold for Saabs out here – I agree. It’s like that at least here in Portland – you see the same cars as in NE, but they are much older and better condition on average here. This goes for Mercedes, Saab, Volvo, BMW, Subaru, – and of course VW. I guess it has been a similar market to NE for a long time – but with basically mild weather and in winter they treat the roads with gravel and a chemical spray – not road salt - finding a car from the 60’ or 70’s is no problem. However, I believe that WA started testing with salt again in a few areas – some high passes. The WA cars out of Seattle seem to me to be a bit more prone to rust being situated right on the sound with salty wind and rain – but Portland has no salt water. Anybody from the Midwest or say from Virginia to Maine would know what I mean by saying I was in vintage overload after moving here if they came out to see.

Now lastly, my 99 – I should say that in a couple years, if I end up rolling back into Providence – I’m sure I will be able to sell this car to one of you East Coast guys no problem with or without the EWP. If not, I am sure I can unload it to some RISD or Brown kid. I think they all have nice trust funds – this should properly reflect the car’s value.
