I am in the middle of doing exactly what you described except I am doing the body work and engine rebuild myself.
When finished, I will have 3 times the money (not counting my labor) in the car than I could ever sell it for. But that was not why I bought the thing
in the first place. I bought it for the sense of accomplishment for doing a good job (and to have another very, very unique car among the masses.)
Have you considered spreading the work and cost out over time so that it is not such a hard it at once?
