Thanks to all of the good advice, you have all been fantastic on the questions I have asked so far.
Yes I want to repaint the engine. Mine is a 1971 (light blue), what color should the engine block be? Valve covers? Or what colors do you think look good?
Whats this I hear about the flat version of the timing gear cover so that I can install an electric fan. Where would I get one and what fans have you used?
My car has AC and fortunantly when I pulled the cover I found that all of the gears were steel. How do I check the bearings like you say? Just try to move up and down?
Some have suggested new rings, how would I know if they are bad or not or is it cheap and easy enough to just replace them? Sorry, I have done mechanical work but never engine work before.
Thanks again
