Here is a link to the photos I took, I hope this helps. Nice clean engine you have there by the way.

An explanation of the photos. Something of note is that I tried to measure how far in to the bellhousing the release plate should sit when the engine and tranny are bolted together. It measures about 2.25".
I did the same thing on the tranny. Measured the depth from the mating suface of the tranny to the contact surface of the throwout bearing adjusted in at the maximum. That also appears to be about 2.25".
If this test is correct, it should be working. Now if I could get that "should" turned into an "is".
I will check that snap ring like you said tomarrow morning. I hope that might be the problem. Now since my step hight seems to be a bit off, should I perhaps put some washers in as a spacer in between the flywheel and the pressure plate mount surface? this would space it out just over 1mm.
Another question. I have the clip that holds the throwout bearing to the top hole but seem to have lost the one for the bottom hole and don't even remember what it looked like. How important is that and how could I get another one? Could I buy something at NAPA and bend it to work?
Thanks for all of your help
