Don't hesitate to use your spare transmission as a learning experience. Make a jig similar to the original so you have the ability to push out the shaft assemblies and bearings. Keep everything in order and lined up on your bench after you remove the shafts. Take pictures, note the location of spacers and washers and the direction they need to be reinstalled. The items that will need replacing will be the ball bearings, roller bearing, and needle bearings, probably syncros, and any damaged or worn shafts or gears. The freewheeling is another area of concern, flies apart if you remove it, all part of the learning process. Ring and pinion set up and adjustment are always an issue, need the gauge and tools to get the adjustment correct. Or you can just replace the bearings if it looks good and take your chances. It's your spare transmission and your time so the sky is the limit depending on what your willing to do. Not all parts are readily available,Enjoy!
