I'm not sure why Saab discontinued it, but free-wheeling was illegal in most mountainous states. Hardly a problem in Kansas, even on Mt. Sunflower - near Goodland I think. I knew a fellow in Boulder, CO, who used to free-wheel down Loveland Pass. Guess he liked to replace brake pads.

Lawrence, eh? I've been there a few times. Home of the KU Jayhawks. Well, we both headed for the NW. I currently live in a little town near Richland, WA. There is a stretch on East bound I-90 (between Ellensburg and Vantage) where I used to free-wheel for about 13-1/2 miles without ever depressing the accelerator. My speed stayed between 60 and 70 the whole way.
