Valve Cover / Synthetic Oil

Taking the valve cover off might be worthwhile, if you really want to troubleshoot it, but its a pain. I put a post on how to do it last Saturday.
I would use oil additives only after you confirm that sludge is a problem. I have a 95 Turbo w/ 90k, and after looking inside, sludge was not an issue.
If you don't want to remove the valve cover (replace gasket), you could just do what I am doing. I ran Quaker State Synthetic Blend as a test last change, and looked for leaks (hence my need to change the valve cover gasket - at this point, I figure I could have gone back to dyno / autoRX if leaks had been worse).
I am now doing what a couple people have suggested: use a larger oil filter, RotellaT synthetic, and I will keep that in there of 1k or so to clean out the dyno, then do the real switch to Mobil1. No leaks so far.
Let me also say that switching has made a dramatic difference in my car. I could swear that the turbo spools faster, and I have 10 more horsepower after switching in the Saab. When I switched to synthetic in my wife's Honda, it got a little quieter, but no real "change".
